Working legally in Thailand takes two separate documents from two different authorities: the right visa — usually a Non-B visa — and a work permit issued by the labour office. A work permit isn’t a general licence to work — it’s tied to a specific employer and a specific role. If either changes, the permit has to change with it. Requirements apply to the employing company as well as to you personally; we confirm the current requirements for your specific case rather than quote general figures that may no longer be accurate.

A work permit is only valid for the employer and role it was issued for — switching jobs without updating it can put your legal status at risk. Company-side requirements for sponsoring a work permit exist and do apply, but they vary by case and change over time, so we always confirm the current ones with you rather than assume. If your employer is BOI-promoted, the process usually moves faster, and we’ll flag that early if it applies to you.
